School calendar dates can appear months or years before the first day of class. They help families distinguish district-published information from tentative material and estimates. ## Official calendars An **Official** label means the dates were transcribed from calendar material published by the school district or another clearly identified official district source. The district page links back to its source whenever one is available. Official does not mean a date can never change. Districts may revise calendars because of weather closures, emergency days, elections, construction, or board action. Always recheck the district source before making plans that would be expensive or difficult to change. ## Draft calendars A **Draft** label means the district has published proposed or preliminary calendar information, but the material may still be awaiting final approval or may be explicitly marked as a draft. Draft dates are useful for early planning, but families should expect possible changes. Before booking travel or arranging long-term childcare, check whether the district has released an adopted version. ## Projected calendars A **Projected** label means the district has not yet published enough final information for that school year and the displayed dates are estimates. Projections may be based on recurring calendar patterns or other clearly described planning assumptions. Projected dates should not be treated as district commitments. Replace them with district-published dates as soon as an official calendar becomes available. ## How to verify an important date 1. Open the district calendar page and review the status label. 2. Follow the **Official Source** link shown on the page. 3. Confirm that the source covers the correct school year and, when applicable, the correct school or calendar track. 4. Check the district website again shortly before travel, childcare, custody exchanges, or other time-sensitive plans. ## Why two calendars may differ Some districts publish more than one calendar for the same year. Traditional schools, year-round programs, alternative schools, and individual campuses may follow different schedules. When multiple calendars are available, the district page identifies the calendar currently being shown and provides a way to switch between available versions.
